Delphic Art Movie Award 2011

Cultural diversity is one of the most valuable results of human existence. It is an inexhaustible source of innovations and advancements. The intercultural dialogue largely contributes to the preservation and support of cultural diversity and a peaceful coexistence of all peoples. Art, the most impressive manifestation of culture, has always furthered mutual understanding and respect across all borders. Although art has so much to give, it is often only a side issue. Continuous effort is needed, to keep art in people's minds. Driven by these insights the International Delphic Council in cooperation with the ITB Berlin initiated the international contest for documentary short films called DELPHIC ART MOVIE AWARD.

The contest features short films which document an artistic achievement, which has largely influenced the cultural image of a country since the year 2000. Each entry is dedicated one artistic achievement and the relevance of its contribution to the cultural heir of mankind. The presented artistic works and artists are representing their nation. The nationality of the film maker is independent and doesn't have to be the same.

The contest's framework is set by the six Delphic Art Categories and their disciplines:

Acoustic Arts - Singing, instrumental, electronic sounds ...

Performing Arts - Dance, theater, circus ...

Lingual Arts - Literature, lectures, moderation ...

Visual Arts - Painting/graphics, sculpture/installation, photography/film, architecture, design, fashion, handicraft ...

Social Arts - Communication, internet, media, pedagogic, didactic ...

Ecological Arts - Landscape and city planning, preservation and conservation of Nature, Buildings, Memorials and Monuments ...

The presented art works have to allocated to one of these art categories and are dedicated either to the contemporary aspect of art or the preservation of traditions. The main aspects of the contest correspond to the formalities of the Delphic Apollo Award, a contest for documentary short films which will be part of the Delphic Games in the future.

Essential criteria for the assessment of the entries by an international jury are:
- relevance of the artistic achievement presented in the short film
- the potential of conveying the most important aspects and the impact of the documented artistic achievement to a broad audience
- the conveyed impression of the creative process and the personality of the artists or group of artists
- the artistic quality of the film and the creative realization of the subject
- the technical quality of the film production

Beside the evaluations by the international jury an evaluation by the public audience is planned.

The films should not exceed a total length (including title and end credits) of 10 minutes and have to be in English or at least need to have English subtitles. Allowed to participate in the contest are all professionally made digital documentary films which adhere to the above mentioned criteria and didn't participate in other contests. Together with the short film, the participants have to send in a 1 minute abstract/extract of the film.
The period for submitting the DVDs and registration is from 1st December to 31st January 2011.

Until 1st March 2011 the nomination jury will choose from the entries the 12 best documentaries. These 12 films will be nominated for the awards. The nominated films will be shown to the public several times daily at the ITB Berlin from 9th March to 13th March 2011. In addition the abstracts/extracts of the nominated films will be available on the websites of the International Delphic Council and the ITB Berlin. The international contest jury will choose 3 prize winners. A special recognition is the nomination of the prize winning entries for the final of the Film Competition Program at the Delphic Games 2013.

The decoration of the prize winners with the DELPHIC ART MOVIE AWARD 2011 will take place at the Delphic closing ceremony of the ITB Berlin 2011. During this event the prize winning films will be shown to the public audience.
